Walk on the Water!

Matthew 14

22 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” 28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.

You’ll never know what it’s like to truly follow Jesus until you leave sense and sensibility in the boat. Unless you set out in unfamiliar, and perhaps uncomfortable territory, you will not know what it means to truly rely on him. What is he calling you to do that feels absolutely right and impossible at the same time? What is it that he is calling you to do that you have been putting off because it appears to transcend all of the “laws of nature” as you know it? What are you to do with that calling? Come back to it later? Really? Step out of the boat and walk with him. Do it now. Don’t put it off. Your life will be found on that path. Trust him! He loves you! Free-fall in his love and live like you’ve never imagined possible!

2 Corinthians 5

6 So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. 7 For we live by believing and not by seeing. 8 Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him.
